Sexual objectification has been well studied,

but most of the research is about looking at

the effects of this objectification.

Women’s sexualized bodies are on display everywhere in perfume ads, beer billboards or movie posters and a new study has recommended that we think of these images as if they were items, not people.
While public, both men and women, see images of sexy women’s bodies as items, sexy-looking men are seen as people, according to the study.

“What’s unclear is, we don’t actually know whether people at a basic level recognize sexualized females or sexualized males as objects,” said Philippe Bernard of Universite libre de Bruxelles in Belgium.

Bernard cowrote the new paper with Sarah Gervais, Jill Allen, Sophie Campomizzi, and Olivier Klein.

Psychological examine has worked out that our brains see people and objects in different ways. For example, while we’re good at recognizing a whole face, just part of a face is a bit secret.

On the other hand, recognizing part of a chair is just as easy as recognizing a whole chair.

One way that psychologists have found to test whether something is seen as an object is by turning it upside down. Pictures of people present a recognition problem when they’re turned upside down, but pictures of objects don’t have that problem.

So Bernard and his colleagues used a test where they presented pictures of men and women in sexualized poses, wearing underwear. Each participant watched the pictures appear one by one on a computer screen.

Some of the pictures were right side up and some were upside down. After each picture, there was a second of black screen, and then the member was shown two images. They were supposed to choose the one that matched the one they had just seen.

People recognized right-side-up men better than upside-down men, suggesting that they were seeing the sexualized men as people. But the women in underwear weren’t any harder to recognize when they were upside down-which is consistent with the idea that people see sexy women as objects. There was no difference between male and female participants.

“What is motivating this study is to understand to what extent people are perceiving these as human or not,” Bernard said.

The next step, he stated, is to study how seeing all these images influences how people treat real women.

The study was published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.

women want to keep them long, while men like to

push to make kisses sloppier suggest a new study.

Also, a kiss shared between a man and a woman seems more like a clash of spirits than a meeting of souls.

“Women tend to use kissing to create a bond with their partners, and to assess them as potential mates. Meanwhile, men use kissing as a means to an end,” said Susan Hughes, a psychologist at Albright College in Pennsylvania, told Life’s Little Mysteries.

And that end is sex.

“Males are kissing primarily to increase arousal for their partner,” she said.

Hughes and her colleague’s researchers probed the kissing preferences and opinions of more than 1,000 males and females in their sexual prime – college undergraduates – who were asked to mark their answers to a series of detailed kissing questions on a 5-point scale.

The results showed that both men and women consider kissing an important and highly intimate interaction. Both sexes use kissing to gauge the relationship compatibility of themselves and their partners.

Furthermore, both may become more or less attracted to their partners based solely on their experience kissing them, a result that lends support to the theory that pheromones and other important biochemical signals get exchanged when people kiss.

But the similarities end there. While women usually consider a bad kiss to be a deal-breaker, men reported that they would more than likely still have sex with a woman even if she were a bad kisser.

In fact, the data showed that males feel much more strongly that kissing should lead to sex than females do.

“Whereas females felt there was a greater likelihood that kissing should lead to sex with a long-term partner than a short-term partner, males felt that in either instance, kissing should lead to sex,” wrote the researchers.

Men also like significantly wetter kisses. The gender divide becomes drastic when the kissing involves short-term partners, who presumably hold primarily sexual rather than romantic appeal. In the short-term, men like kisses to be wet, while women do not.

Psychologists hypothesize that males “perceive a greater wetness or salivary exchange during kissing as an index of the female’s sexual arousal/receptivity, similar to the act of sexual intercourse,” wrote Hughes.

Follow-up research conducted by Helen Fisher, an anthropologist at Rutgers University, in 2009 even found that men pass testosterone to women via their saliva, which may momentarily increase the women’s sex drive.

The findings were published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology.

Cannes Film Festival bosses will celebrate the 50th

anniversary of the James Bond franchise by

screening five classic 007 movies at the Festival.

The suave superspy first burst onto the big screen in 1962′s Dr. No and went on to become one of the icons of modern cinema.

The films, which have all been digitally enhanced, will be shown free to the public at an outdoor theatre on Cannes Beach. The screenings mark the start of a year-long series of global events celebrating the franchise’s anniversary.

To celebrate the franchise’s 50th birthday this year (12), officials at this month’s (May12) French film festival will screen 007′s debut cinema outing along with its follow-up From Russia with Love, George Lazenby’s sole turn as the spy in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Sean Connery’s swansong in 1971′s Diamonds Are Forever, and current Bond star Daniel Craig’s debut in Casino Royale.

“The screenings in Cannes mark a year-long celebration, including a return to theatres worldwide of some of the classic Bond films,” the Daily Express quoted MGM and Sony executives as saying in a joint statement.
